Description:
Medium-sized robin like stance, with prominent white supercilium and rufous tail sides. Male has variable blue, black and rufous patterning to throat and breast. Female has black submoustachial stripe and band of black spotting across breast; older females can have breast bands of blue and rufous.
Distribution:
Common resident and passage migrant in Gilgit-Baltistan, very rare in eastern regions. Favoring proximity to water, lake margins with copious low dense vegetation with patches of open ground. Breeds at 2600-3800m, winters in lowlands.
Behavior:
Feeds on ground and in low vegetation, gleaning from stems and low leaves; occasionally catches flying insects. In winter hops about at water's edge, skulking among wet reeds and bushes. Primarily feeds on invertebrates, chiefly insects, with some seeds and fruit in autumn.
