Description:
Rather large bunting with yellowish throat or breast, with chestnut rump. Shows yellow on supercilium, throat and belly, which help separate from Pine Bunting. Usually is pale yellow and streaked upperparts, with hindneck and shoulders greyish and with yellow pigments and chestnut on flanks and breast richer.
Distribution:
Rare vagrant to the northern parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly Hunza, Nagar and Baltistan. Mainly Prefers open woodlands, scrub, weeds, cultivations and margins of fields up to 2600m. Also forest edges and orchards, avoiding dense forest.
Behavior:
Forages almost exclusively on ground, but recorded also as clinging from tall herbs. Regularly retreats to perch on bushes if disturbed. Usually gregarious, also mixing with other species. Mostly feeds on seeds of several grasses, weed, crops and fruit trees; during breeding season, at least, also invertebrates.
